P.E. - Te Reo Kori

The girls made poi with thier buddy class and learnt many new actions.  Then they got to create their own dances. 

 

The boys learnt two haka: Ka Mate and Toi Mai Te Waka. 

Thank you Regan for leading the haka.  I was amazed at how much you remembered from last year. 

We learnt many action songs and our school song, Haere Mai.  It was lots of fun to use these songs for our class fitness. 

We learnt different ways to use rakau.  We made up some rountines and are still learning actions to a song.  

The junior team had some fun afternoons where the children learnt how to play hopscotch, marbles, skipping, gutterball, frisbee and knucklebones.  We have had lots of fun learning Te Reo Kori. 

Welcome Mrs Tehseen

We are very lucky to have Mrs Tehseen in our class.  She is learning to become a teacher and will be with us for 5 weeks.  We are pleased you are here.  We hope you have lots of fun in our class!

Shania's Rabbit

Thank you for bringing your rabbit into school.  It is very big for a baby rabbit.  We loved patting it.

Snail Observations

We looked at snails.  We needed to draw everything we saw.  We noticed mucus coming out behind the snail and we saw its muscular foot when we looked under the glass. 

Worm Hunt

We went on a worm hunt.  We tipped soapy warm water onto the grass.  Then we needed to wait patiently.  In no time, the worms started wriggling out of the grass.  We picked them up carefully and observed them wiggle in the container.

Dimitri's Lunch

We read a story called Dimitri's Lunch.  Dimitri loved to eat feta, lettuce and tomato sandwiches.  A child was mean to Dimitri and told him his sandwich was stinky.  We made the same sandwiches.  At first we weren't sure if we would like them, but we LOVED them.  They tasted so good!

Autumn Leaf Art

We went on an Autumn leaf hunt.  We drew observational drawings of leaves and dyed them yellow.  We did leaf rubbings using cool colours and dyed the backgrounds using hot colours.  We tried to stick the leaves on to make it look 3D.  It was very tricky.  Here is our art.

Making Poppy Art

We have been working very hard to make ANZAC poppies.  We scrunched up crepe paper for the black centre.  We drew petals and painted them red.  We can't wait to show you what they look like when we finish them next week.

Congratulations

 

Brooklyn got her certificate for taking her time to draw an excellent observational drawing of a leaf. 

Jasmine got hers for being a wonderful helper.  She always uses her initiative to find jobs that need to be done without being asked.

You both are amazing!  Well done girls, I am so proud of you. 

Autumn Leaf Hunt

Our class went on an Autumn leaf hunt.  We found lots of coloured leaves scattered on the school grounds.  We are going to use the leaves for print rubbings and observational drawings.

ANZAC Day

Today we remembered the people who went to war to keep our country safe.  Thank you to all the soldiers, nurses, pilots and engineers who went to protect their loved ones. 

 Children brought some flowers to lay at our school gate of rememberance.

Welcome to Term 2

Welcome back to school.  I am so pleased to see your smiling faces again.  I have planned a lot of fun things for us to do this term.  

Anzac Day Memorial

On Tuesday 24th April we are having a memorial service at school to remember the soldiers who died in Gallipoli.  Family members are welcome to join us.  The service begins at 2.30.

Science

For the first three weeks of school, we are learning about bugs.  What do you know about bugs?

It's the holidays!

I hope you all have a fantastic Easter.  Remember to have lots of fun and rest over the holidays.  If you want, you can post a comment over the holidays and let everyone know what exciting things you have been up to.  I will miss you all heaps!  I'm counting down the sleeps until I see you again.

Wheelchair Rugby

We were very fortuante today because we got to play wheelchair rubgy.  It was a lot of fun zooming around in the wheelchairs and crashing into one another.  We were a little nervous to begin, but in no time we were grinning from ear to ear.

Although we had lots of fun, some people who are in wheelchairs told us their stories.  We learnt the importance of wearing our seat belts in the car because if we don't, we may need a wheelchair too.  Tomorrow our class has a challenge to not use our legs for one and a half hours.  Wish us luck!

Gingerbread Men

Run, run, as fast as you can.  You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man.  

Today we made gingerbread men in class. We were very lucky that our gingerbread men did not run away.  We got to gobble them all up.

Monarch Butterfly Art

We are very lucky to have monarch butterflies hatch in our class.  We looked closely at their wings and drew close up pictures of the wings.  We had to really persist to colour the whole page in with pastels.  It was tricky to blend the two colours together.

Easter Eggs

We have been learning to Manage Ourselves.  Hollie and Heather are brilliant at getting themselves organised for learning and staying on task.  Keep up the great work!

Fire Department Visit

Wow!  We have had a very exciting day today.  The Halcombe Volunteer Fire Department came to our school.  They taught us how to be safe in a fire, suggested we talk to our families about making a fire escape plan, and their fundraiser.  They are going to run up 1103 stairs in the Sky Tower.  That sounds like hard work.  They are raising money for leukemia.

Te Aniwa presented Mr Darling with the money we raised.

Some people dressed up in their clothes.  It was very hot.

We needed to guess how far their hose would squirt water.

When they left the fire engine made a siren sound.
