Special Message

Last night our classroom got a visit from some special message.  This is the message they left on our board.  We were very excited to read it.  Thank you for the message BOT.

Maths - Length

Today we lined up from shortest to tallest.  First, we needed to estimate who was the shortest and who was the tallest.  Next, we had to find our place in the line without talking.  This was very tricky.  We needed to work together.  We thought Malinda was the shortest.  We were correct.  We guessed Shania was the tallest because she is the oldest in the class.  We were wrong.  She is near the middle.  We were very surprised.

Maths - Length

We are learning about measurement.  This week we are looking at length.  Today we picked some objects from around the room.  We compared to see who has the biggest or smallest objects.  Then we estimated where they would go when we lined them up from smallest to biggest.

Olympic Rings

We have been learning about the Olympic flag.  We learnt that the rings are very important.  The colours can be found on flags all around the world.  The 5 rings represent the continents.  The rings link together to show unity and fair play.  We found it difficult to understand unity, so we stood up and linked our arms together like the rings.  We thought about why the different continents would link together.  It looked like we were hugging and that is something that good friends do.  In the end, we decided that unity means it is important to be good friends and to look after one another.

Balancing Competition

Our weekly poem makes us move in strange ways.  It told us to stand on one leg and see how long we can last.  Every day we balanced on one leg.  We got better every day.  We kept perservering.  Logan and Josh were our champions.  They won nearly every day.

Room One's Olympic Torch Run

Yay!  The Olympics has started!  We have learnt all about the olympic torch and why it is used.  Did you know that the flame starts in Greece and is then flown to the host country?  We made a torch and had our own olmpic run.  The torch is now in the office staying burning until the end of the Olympics.

Jane Lloyd's Art Workshop

Jane showed us how to draw hedgehogs.  We learnt how to plan art.  We needed to listen very carefully.  We started by drawing big shapes and then the small shapes.  Then we added detail.  We also learnt to use the side of our pencils to add shading.  Come into our class and have a look at our wonderful creations.

White Kiwi - Manukura

Mrs O'Donnell knew we had been learning about endangered animals.  Over the school holidays she went to Mt Bruce.  When she was there, she saw a white kiwi called, 'Manukura'.  She gave the class a lovely postcard with the kiwi on it.  Thank you very much Mrs O'Donnell.

Hula Hoop Challenge

We had a hula hoop challenge with the school today.  It was very funny.  Miss Simpson picked one child from each class to compete.  It was very tricky!  Well done Hillary for winning the competition.

Palmerston North Boys High School Visit

Wow!  We were very lucky to have Boys High School come and share their music groups with us.  We saw their ochestra, drummers, string trio, pipers, brass band, choirs, and someone even played music with a garden hose.  It was amazing!  We all want to learn how to play instruments now.

Gymnastics

Today was the first day we did gymnastics.  We started by doing a fun dance to warm up.  Thank you Jack and Ashlee H for teaching it to the other classes.  We are learning to balance on a beam, roll around a bar, jump over the vault box, move through the air using a trampoline, skipping, and to do forward rolls. We had an amazing first day.  Keep up the great work Room 1.

Holiday News

Two children went to Australia during the school holidays.  Logan wrote some amazing stories and shared them with the class.  Regan wrote a letter on a postcard.  It arrived today.  We were all very excited to get it.  Thank you for reading your stories and postcard to the whole class.  It sounded like you both had an amazing time.
