News Day Tuesday

Every Tuesday, we look at current events.  Children bring clippings from the newspaper or share items they have seen on the news.  We write the information in our News Day Tuesday book. Once our book is full, the person with the most news shared gets to keep the book.
Congratulations Logan on winning our News Day Tuesday Book.  We will put it in our library corner until the end of the term, then you can get to keep it forever.  It is wonderful to see someone so enthusiastic about their learning.

Fun Times

Mr Short came to school and showed us his Lamborghini.  He explained how he created replica's with molds he creatred.
Turakina Maori Girls College showed us an amazing performance with their singing abilities.  Thank you very much.  Your singing was beautiful.
Chelsea and 5 of her amazing performing dogs put on a tremendous show.  We were astounded by their amazing tricks.

Dylan turned 6 years old.  He brought a delicious cake to school to share with the class.  Thank you Mrs Poulsen, the cake was beautiful.  We hope you had a wonderful birthday Dylan!
When it was maths week, we went on a maths trail with Rooms 2 and 7.  We had lots of fun activities to do.  We needed to count how many pieces of bark we could hold in our hand, count how many children could fit on the slide, find lots of shapes on the playground, and much much more.  It was fantastic fun.
We even ate ice creams when New Zealand won their first gold Olympic medal.
We went to a fun Olympics day and experienced lots of fun sports.  Thank you parents for all of your support.

Buddy Class - Padder Tennis

Our big buddies taught us how to play padder tennis.  It was much harder than we thought, but we kept persisting.  Thank you for teaching us Room 4.

Area

We have been learning to measure area.  We used pieces of A4 paper to measure the whiteboard and table.  First, we needed to estimate how many pieces of paper we would use.  Estimating is hard.  It was a lot of fun.
We also traced around our hands in our maths books.  We estimated how many squares filled our hands.  Then we counted the squares to measure the area.

Gymnastics

Look at how good we are getting at gymnastics!

Reading with Mrs Stace

Mrs Stace read us an amazing story.  The story was about a rabbit, called Abigail.  She is also learning gymnastics.  Abigail sat beside Mrs Stace and listened to the story too.  Abigail was very clever!  Sometimes she would talk and laugh.  It was very exciting to listen to a toy talk about what was happening in the story.  Thank you for bringing her in to share with us!

Medal Making

We looked closely at the Olympic medals.  We learnt about the different symbols and why they are used on the medal.  We noticed a woman on it that looked like a fairy.  Her name is Nike.  She is the Greek goddess of victory.  Does anybody have any ideas why she would be used on an Olympic medal?
We designed our own medals.  Briar was the only child to make a bronze medal and Ashlee H was the only child to make a silver medal.  Everyone else made gold.

Room One Running Races

Yippee, yahoo!  I stood on the starting line.  I felt very nervous.  Mrs Christiansen shouted, "On your mark.  Get set.  Go!"  I ran so fast that I couldn't see anything.  I zoomed like a rocket.  My feet bagan to hurt.  Ouch!  I stood on a stone.  I was so excited when I got to the finish line.  Yay!  I just won a running race.  I was so puffed, I needed a big breath.
By Room 1.
Congratulations to our winning champions:
Logan, Connor and Jack P.

Te Reo Maori - Greetings

We have been learning how to say hello in lots of different ways.  We know how to say:
- hi
- hello to 1 person
- hello to 2 people
- hello to lots of people
- good morning
- good afternoon
- good night
Sometimes we still get confused.  Do you know how to say any of these in te reo Maori?

Maths - ordering smallest to biggest

We learnt how to order objects from smallest to biggest in a group.  We used shapes and teddy bears.  We had to work together because sometimes we didn't agree with one another.
